Fort Stewart

Hinesville, Georgia is also home to legendary Fort Stewart. In 1956 the base was designated a fort, and in 1974 Fort Stewart’s permanence was solidified by the arrival of the Twenty-fourth Infantry Division (inactivated in 1996) and the Seventy-fifth Infantry Regiment (Ranger). Since the 1970s, Hinesville has grown from a town of around 4,000 to a city of 33,437, according to the 2010 U.S. census. The city’s growth is fueled by that of Fort Stewart, and the fates of the two communities are inextricably tied, as the soldiers rely on the city’s service and retail industry (Barlament, James. “Hinesville.” New Georgia Encyclopedia. 29 June 2013).

Education

Hinesville schools are part of the Liberty County School District, which has grades from pre-school up to grade twelve. There are currently 8 elementary schools, three middle schools, and two high schools located in Liberty County that students living in Hinesville attend.
